Ancient oil painting on wood from the Lombard school depicting Pentecost.
This lively eighteenth-century painting depicts in a very scenic way the evangelical episode of Pentecost or the Descent of the Holy Spirit which occurred 50 days after the resurrection of Christ.
The Virgin is placed at the center of the scene and is surrounded by the Apostles who assume attitudes and expressions of amazement as they see the flames descend on them.
The dove representing the Holy Spirit is also placed at the center of the architecture.
The composition of the scene is particularly pleasant both for the remarkable description of the characters and for the splendid colors typical of the period to which it belongs.
