Lilian Harrison (British, late 19th – early 20th century) – Highland Bulls in a Lake Landscape.
47 cm x 61 cm.
Oil on canvas, without frame.
Work signed lower left: «Lilian Harrison».
The scene depicts a herd of Highland cattle gathered on the shores of a mountain lake, in a landscape reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands. In the background, mountain ranges slope down towards the lake basin, shrouded in a sky of shifting clouds. In the foreground, four animals with distinctive tawny coats and pronounced horns animate the grassy shore, while the vegetation—heather, bushes, and patches of wild grass—is treated with loose brushstrokes. The composition is in keeping with the Victorian tradition of Scottish animal landscapes, with particular attention to the rendering of Nordic light and the characterization of the subjects.
