The Louis XVI mirror in question, of clear Piedmontese manufacture, was made of carved and gilded wood and has a perforated cymatium decorated with volute friezes on the top. 

The Louis XVI style in furnishings precedes the reign of Louis XVI (1774-1793) by a few years, from which it takes its name, and is characterized by the renunciation of rounded and extroverted shapes in favor of a straight, simpler, more sober line. and geometric, inspired by Greco-Roman classicism.

Even today, Louis XVI furnishings are synonymous with elegance and prestige. The furnishings that date back to this era therefore follow a simple but at the same time elegant and refined taste, and are taken care of down to the smallest details with extreme precision, as we can also see in this mirror. The technical perfection of their execution is so high that it makes it almost impossible to create copies, which is why it is very rare for Louis XVI style frames and furniture to be faked.

The Louis XVI style was considered the golden age of French furniture, where demand from the aristocracy was high and frequent.
