The invention of movable type printing prompted the publication of the most important scientific and technical works of theantiquity, such as the Cosmographia of Claudius Ptolemy, the books De materia medica of Dioscorides, the Elementa geometrye of Euclid, and medieval treatises.
At the same time, the cartographic production inherited from the past is updated on modern nautical charts, also in relation to voyages of discovery, just as the botanical nomenclature is the subject of arrangement by naturalists, also through the direct reconnaissance of the local flora and the discovery of still unknown species from the "West Indies". Numerous technical treatises are also printed which reveal the secrets of the artisan tradition which contribute to strengthening the new cooperation between scientists and technicians.
