Aquatint from the 30s-40s depicting the scene of the attack on the Hotel De Ville which took place on 1800 July 28. The engraving is made by the French engraver Jazet Jean Pierre Marie (1830-1788) known above all for his Napoleonic representations, modelled on the painting by the painter Hippolyte Lacomte (1871-1781).
A pair of the same engraving is preserved at the Carnavalet Museum in Paris.
The aquatint for sale is in a conservative condition, as can be seen from the photos it has suffered damage from moths against which it has been appropriately treated.
It is sold in a contemporary frame in full Napoleon III style made of solid walnut and lacquered in black with internal moulding of gilded palmettes.
