Year 1787.

Sizes

95x75 cm.

Description

“Architectural capriccio with ruins and characters”, tempera on canvas applied to wood, signed “GBB FEC(it)”.
Dimensions: 95×75 cm. Good state of conservation.
The work is "en pendant" with a series of three other canvases of the same subject and same pictorial technique, which is referred to in the previous and following posts. Each work bears the monogram “GBB” and one of them is also dated “1787”. Being part of the same cycle and taking into account the speed inherent in the particular type of pictorial technique adopted, I believe that the tempera paintings in question were executed in the same year.
The caprices bear a traditional attribution to an Emilian author, but, quietly, I believe that the painter, currently anonymous, should be sought among the Venetian quadraturists. Certainly, the unknown monogrammarist "GBB", creator of these paintings which stand out for their freshness, imaginative overall vision, speed of execution and flavor of the figurines, deserves a more in-depth study.
Certification of authenticity and lawful origin is issued in accordance with the law.
