Armando Testa is one of the most important Italian and international advertising graphic designers of the 900th century, remembered for his brilliant ideas which significantly contributed to the development of broad visual culture during the years of the economic boom and Pop art.
In 1978 Studio Testa became Armando Testa SpA, opening offices in Milan, Rome and abroad in the following years and it was precisely in these years that some of the most intriguing advertising stunts came out, including the famous ones for the Esselunga supermarket chain which that combine food and historical figures, or food and zodiac signs, or that ask a question about an image that could represent an animal, or food. In the one presented here, the phonetic assonance between the word "Babà" and "Babbo" is leveraged, as well as in the others available in the shop, one funnier than the other.
Testa was one of the first to understand that advertising is an integral part of our lives: like it or not, we are hammered by it at every hour of the day and night, in many cases they take on the status of works of art historicized by critics.
