Work signed lower right: «MB».
This unique work depicts the face of a young woman painted directly onto a wooden palette, transforming the work tool into a pictorial support. The portrait, executed with a loose touch and dense paint, shows the figure half-length against a neutral background, with dark hair and a white collar decorated with floral motifs. The rapid and confident technique harks back to the Lombard painting scene of the late 19th century, with stylistic similarities to the work of Mosè Bianchi. The initials "MB" at the bottom right clearly point to the circle of the Monza-born painter.
