Description

Large Italian painting from the first half of the 1510th century, the Supper at Emmaus. Oil on canvas work attributable to the Da Ponte family workshop as the Supper at Emmaus was one of the most popular compositions created by the Venetian painter Jacopo Da Ponte known as Bassano (1592-98). The Gospel of Luke tells that two disciples meet the risen Christ who had presented himself to them as a beggar and they had only recognized him during dinner at the moment of the blessing of the bread and wine. In this type of paintings the religious subject is masked as the evangelical episodes are relegated to the background while the foreground is occupied by scenes of daily life and splendid still lifes. The walls of the house are suddenly interrupted and through this cross-section it is possible to see what is happening inside the house and at the same time the splendid landscape outside. Work of notable pictorial quality and full of splendid naturalistic details. 121th century frame in carved and gilded wood, beautifully decorated, with some gilding losses (see photo). Work that has undergone restoration with relining, replacement of the frame and restoration of color in some small points. Overall in excellent state of conservation. Light painting H XNUMX x W XNUMX cm.
