40s
Height 20 cm Diameter 18 cm
Egg-shaped ceramic with a hand-decorated relief figure depicting Pinocchio pulling the donkey, produced by the Ligurian manufacturer LA CASA DELL'ARTE, circa 1940.
Dimensions: Height 20 cm Diameter 18 cm
In good general condition, as shown in the photos, there are small chips on the Pinocchio figure and on the donkey.
Under the base it bears the words “CDA ALBISOLA”.
The great peculiarity of this object is the surface consistency of the ceramic, rough and rough, a refined treatment that distances us from the more usual smooth, uniform and smooth surface that we are used to seeing. The egg is open and jagged at the top and is entirely white enamelled. It features a hand-decorated figure in polychrome depicting Pinocchio intent on pulling the donkey, Collodi's famous character/puppet taken from his novel “The Adventures of Pinocchio. Story of a puppet” from the end of the 19th century.
Regarding the history of the manufacture, it is good to know that it was founded by Giuseppe Agnino with Giulio and Angelo Barile in 1921, in Albisola Capo, with the name of "La Casa dell'Arte" aimed at the production of modern artistic ceramics, hiring Dario as expert technicians Ravano, Ivos Pacetti and Roggiapani, just released from the demobilized “MAS” (Maioliche Artistiche Savonesi) and as decorator the painter Manlio Trucco, returning from his artistic experience in Paris. In 1937 Giò Ponti collaborated with La Casa dell'Arte, designing some ceramic works. Among the artists who collaborate with the manufacture, in addition to those already mentioned, the following are worth mentioning: Adelina Zandrino, Francesco dal Pozzo, Tosetti, Emanuele Rambaldi and Mario Gambetta.
