First quarter of the 18th century.
Width: 140 cm, depth: 57 cm; height: 92 cm.
Three-drawer chest of drawers in walnut and burl walnut. Emilia, Louis XIV period. The simple design, still of 17th-century origin, is characterized by a certain refinement in the ornamental details that blend well with the linear and austere regional taste. The pronounced filleting around the panels and the presence, within them, of a variegated burl walnut veneer are elements that characterize much of the cabinetmaking from the central Emilia region. The structure of the piece, as mentioned, follows 17th-century construction principles, but the particularly thoughtful use of materials allows it to be dated to the Louis XIV period. The back and bottoms of the drawers are made of poplar wood. The chest of drawers is in excellent condition, ready to be enjoyed to the fullest by the future purchaser. It has undergone restoration and replacements to the bracket supports and two back boards. The bronze handles, although lost-wax cast and patinated, are not contemporary with the furniture, while the locks are original.
