Mid 17th century.

Chest of drawers with four drawers veneered in walnut and walnut root. Emilia, mid-17th century. The cabinet has the front of the four drawers entirely veneered in walnut briar, while the sides are equally veneered, but in walnut feather. Only the top is made of solid wood, also in walnut essence. Bottoms and backs are made of poplar.
Original handles and locks with visible mechanism from the same period as the furniture.
The sides of the chest of drawers are characterized by the ornamental motif framed with broken lines, a characteristic decoration of Reggio cabinetmaking. Another peculiarity of seventeenth-century Reggio Emilia furniture is constituted by the large volumes, which, as we enter the decades of the century, tend to reduce. At the same time, aesthetic research is accentuated, with the use of walnut root veneers to replace solid wood, frequently used until the first half of the sixteenth century.
The chest of drawers, although it has never been subjected to restoration work, is in a good state of conservation.
