The box represents a refined example of lacquered wooden furniture, which fits into the tradition of seventeenth-century furniture from the Marche region. From the charm and beauty of the first lacquered furniture, seen or imported from the East, the art of Italian lacquered furniture was born, so much so that the first examples created were very similar to the models - the so-called chinoiserie - and then diverged and obtained their own autonomy stylistic code. In Italy, to create lacquered furniture, stone pine or Swiss pine is worked, light and suitable for lacquering, or walnut for more refined works, with layers of glue and plaster finished with fine sandpaper, and then decorated with vegetal and phytomorphic motifs. Lacquered furniture is the privilege of the wealthy classes and its decoration is often influenced by great works of art, so much so that sometimes the artists employed in the decoration of palace rooms are also asked to produce cartoons to decorate the lacquered furniture.
