Description

Chest of drawers with four drawers in walnut and walnut root. Modena, between the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century. The volume of the furniture is lightened by the band with a frame in strong relief which delimits the height of the first drawer under the support surface. The flat frames that border the drawers are a typical feature of Modena cabinet-making. Bronze handles with a simplified baroque design, inspired by Roman models, are very common in this area and are clearly visible in the piece of furniture in question. If the body and the lid of the piece of furniture still demonstrate a completely seventeenth-century taste (insisted by the presence, on the sides, of a double paired ashlar with vertical development), the drawers, refined by mixed-line threads in maple which contain precious blond walnut burls, declare that the furnishings belong to the first quarter of the 18th century, when there was a need for greater refinement, domesticity and lightness in interior furnishings compared to the full-bodied magniloquence of jug furniture. Shelf supports with a typical design widespread throughout Emilia. The structure of the chest of drawers is made of poplar wood, while the drawer fronts are made of fir. The piece of furniture is original in every part. The handles and locks (two, double throw) are also contemporary with the piece of furniture.

Excellent state of conservation.

Provenance: Emilia, Private Collection.

Certification of authenticity and lawful origin of the furniture is issued in accordance with the law.
