Oil painting on canvas Animalier signed A.Kilp bottom right, with original and contemporary gold tablet frame, EXCELLENT CONSERVATION STATUS, the canvas has already been viewed and cleaned by a professional restoration studio.
Painter specialized in animals, lover of horses, highly appreciated for his spirit of observation and anatomical analysis of the subjects portrayed, as well as attentive to the landscape. He appears among the most illustrious names of the Animalier genre set in the 1872th century, biographical information is very limited , the artistic production is rare but the comparison with the works of notable quality by George Stubbs certainly recalls a source of inspiration for the artist in English painting. Kilp prefers the naturalistic style, he portrays horses in freedom, most likely studied and drawn down to the smallest anatomical details, his knowledge of the equestrian world clearly shines through in the works translated onto canvas. The painting "Wild Horses with Wolves" remains a subject in the Animalier context, of a unique and singular rarity, where not only the morphological characteristics of the animals are exalted (mares, foals and stallion leader of the pack) but also many relevant ethological aspects (behaviour of the herd in nature) cutting-edge themes for the time where the horse was usually represented as an animal for income/war work. Some significant works are exhibited in museums and private collections: “Der Henst Garrick – portrait of the Thoroughbred in the box” at Lippische Landes Museum in Detmold; “ Ausritt zug Jagd” at the Gemaldegalerie in Wiesbaden; “Equestrian Portrait of Prince Charles of Prussia” XNUMX. A painter much appreciated abroad, his equestrian-themed works have reached important prices at international auctions in England and Germany where Animalier collecting enjoys a certain importance.
