Pair of important chests of drawers in carved, lacquered and painted wood. Palermo, 18th century.
137 x 64 xh 110 cm.
An exceptional pair of lacquered and polychrome painted wooden chests of drawers, masterpieces of 18th-century Sicilian cabinetmaking. These pieces represent the pinnacle of the island's decorative tradition, characterized by a chromatic and ornamental exuberance that reflects Spanish and Bourbon influences, as well as a Rococo style filtered through a Mediterranean sensibility.
Relief gold pastiglia decorations on a vermilion red background frame irregular scrolls decorated with polychrome floral arrangements. The top is painted to resemble a veined marble. The curved front features three drawers, resting on elegant cabriole legs topped with stag-hoof feet.
