An elegant pair of Japanese Imari vases with lids, dating back to the 19th century (late Edo or Meiji period). Made of glazed porcelain, they feature a rounded shape with a domed lid topped with a bulbous knob.
The decoration, typical of the Imari-Arita style, is executed in a rich and vibrant palette of underglaze cobalt blue, with overglaze iron red and gold applied. The ornamental motifs are densely distributed: floral, geometric, and stylized landscape motifs combine harmoniously in a succession of panels and register decorations. The upper and lower portions of the vases are framed by ornamental bands, with stylized wave and Greek key motifs.
The decoration is distinguished by the refinement of its details and the quality of its execution, reflecting the influence of Oriental aesthetics, also intended for the European market. These vases are not only objects of decorative art, but also testimonies to the great Japanese ceramic tradition.
