Fourth decade of the 19th century.
Width: 141 cm, depth: 62,5 cm; height: 108 cm.
Sideboard veneered in walnut and crotchet, finely inlaid with maple. Romagna, fourth decade of the 19th century. Good condition. This is an example of the richest 19th-century Romagna tradition, which during that period (driven primarily by the great inlayers of Faenza, operating in the neighborhood near what is now Porta Montanara, the city gate that opened onto Tuscany) revived the tradition of inlay work, used in an imaginative and exuberant manner. Remnants of the Neoclassical style are the reinterpretations of the candelabra friezes, achieved through the use of vertical inlays on the two side uprights of the cabinet. The perimeter of the panel housing the spacious drawer is entirely decorated with light-colored wood inlays, featuring a plant motif, while the entire surface of the cabinet is refined with thin geometric fillets. The sideboard's distinctive structure, consisting of two overlapping sections joined by connecting elements, was known as "a primavera" (especially in Romagna) or "a giardiniera" (especially in the Emilian region). The furniture, still in its first patina, is original in every part, including the locks and hidden parts. The woodwork is in excellent condition. A professional polishing would be recommended to enhance both the walnut grain and the rich inlay decorations.
