Description

The small domestic altar depicts Ganesh, one of the most celebrated deities of the Hindu Pantheon. He is represented with four arms and is sitting on a throne. He is the god of wisdom, patron of letters and sciences and guarantees success in both earthly and spiritual life. His protruding belly confers prosperity on the faithful. The wonderfully smooth surface of the bronze is a symptom of a long and perpetual veneration by faithful who have handed down the small altar for generations from father to son.
On his right we can recognize his vahana Mushika, the mouse, a small animal that acts as the divinity's "mount" (or "vehicle"), intent on gobbling up a sweet.
Red vermilion powder sediments are visible near the ears and on the base.
Beautiful brown patina and in good condition.
