Double-handled vase in copper and silver, hallmark of the fasces, silversmith Galileo Paoli, 30s

Produced by Galileo Paoli of the historic company Galileo Paoli was Ansalone registered in via Romana in Florence, the stamp with fasces was in use from 1935 to 1945

In the 30s, the League of Nations imposed an embargo on Italy, following the colonial war in Africa, which prevented it from purchasing all metals including silver. However, the shortage of this precious metal did not stop the production of objects of 'art 

 The use of other metals, the imagination of the designers and the wisdom of the master craftsmen finally made this interesting and innovative period rare and cutting-edge in the panorama of the minor arts.

The vase is in excellent original condition and has a beautiful period patina 

NB the hand-chiseled silver leaf decoration is present on both sides of the artefact
