XVII
cm 64 x 80
The painting features an exuberant composition of fish, crustaceans, and a small bird in the foreground. The bold brushstrokes, rich in warm-toned paint, are made brilliant in some passages by the play of light, skilfully imitating the reflection of wet surfaces, offering the observer a realistic and lively mimesis of nature in pose. These stylistic features and the quality of the execution absolutely confirm the reference to Felice Boselli, more precisely to his mature period between the first and second decade. For further comparison, we also recall the similar composition sold by Lempertz on 19 November 2016 (lot no. 1110 illustrated on pages 170-171).
The painting is presented with its contemporary carved and gilded frame.
