Description

1899 Goldscheider sculpture by artist Haniroff titled “La Fierté” portraying an allegory of pride in the form of a young woman.

In the lower part of the bust, written in relief in Art Nouveau characters, we read the title of the work “LA FIERTE'” (from the French “pride”). On the rear part you can see the writing "Reproduction Reservée" at the bottom while on the back, in the central part you can read "2178 126 55" and a little further down the manufacturing brand.

The work is listed as number 2178 in the Goldscheider general catalogue.

Dimensions: Height 65 cm

The work, with a decidedly Liberty flavour, is the personification of pride in the form of a female bust, a personification made explicit by the sculptor in the haughty, proud and contemptuous gaze of the young girl. Her showy and sophisticated hairstyle masterfully frames her delicate face as if to hide her beauty and occupies a preponderant role in the composition imagined by the sculptor. In fact, upon a more in-depth look, the carnal plasticity given to her hair is evident, which contrasts well with the rest of the sculpture, which is decidedly less jagged and based on a more fluid and flowing modeling of the material. The slender realistic dress becomes pure formal abstraction, becoming a preamble to the writing "La Fierté".
