We are pleased to present this large oil on canvas painting from the early 20th century. This splendid portrait of an Edwardian English lady is signed C.B. Prescott on the lower left and dated 1913, likely by the English painter Charles Barrow PRESCOTT (1870-1932), but no authentication is available. This is a fantastic painting in which the woman, in a three-quarter pose, embodies all the characteristics of the English upper middle class of the early 20th century. The furnishings surrounding the subject are elegant and refined; a large red velvet armchair creates a perfect contrast with the black dress. On the right, a large and precious potiche vase on a Louis XV coffee table accentuates the value of the antique furniture. The woman wears a dress and handbag that reflect the fashion of the time. Her social status is emphasized by the numerous jeweled jewelry she displays with extreme ease. Under the coffee table are some books, likely intended to highlight her interest not only in fashion and jewelry, but also in culture and art. The pictorial quality is evident in the execution of proportions, the details, and, above all, the ability to portray the personality of the woman portrayed. Her face is full of expression: a determined look and a faint smile convey a strong and self-confident character, likely a woman who happily accepted her social status, enjoying both material and intellectual pleasures. A wonderful painting that will enchant your guests! If you love old portraits, you absolutely must add this splendid painting to your collection. The painting is presented in a splendid, recently crafted gilded wooden frame. Frame dimensions (cm): Height: 163,5 Width: 130,5 Depth: 8 Painting width (cm): Height: 145 Width: 112
