1934
H 35 XL 18 x D 15 cm
Earthenware formed by casting and decorated with polychrome enamels depicting an under-glaze The Milliner.
The figure is sitting on a column, holding an apple in his left hand and a black hatbox with a polka dot pattern tucked into his right arm. The girl's face has the characteristic doll-like features and hair garcon, wears a black beret and a lobster orange dress, with a simple cut that suits the shape of the body.
The girl represents a model of femininity already proposed by Mrs. Scavini in many ceramics created and designed during the 1930s, a mirror of the society of the time, which shows young girls in contemporary clothes captured in simple, everyday gestures.
This version is exemplary as it is embellished by the addition of a ceramic side bow; the bow turns into a practical handle to lift part of the hatbox, revealing its function as a container.
Under the base is signed “Lenci Made in Italy Torino” dated 1934 (XII year of the fascist era).
Inscription engraved in paste on the back side of the “icnel” base.
