ERCOLE DREI – Modeno eternal classical language. Echoes from the twentieth century 6 – Studiolo, Milan 2020 edited by G.Cribiori, plate 15
In 1929, as part of the XNUMXst Exhibition of the Lazio Artists' Union in Rome, Drei presented a group of four sculptures depicting Comedy, Music, Dance and Tragedy.
This version, missing the arms (which in the bronzes were cast separately and welded in a subsequent phase), certainly refers to the already known one published by F.Bertoni (Faenza, 1986, fig.62) which appears complete in its final plaster version glossy of which it is the sketch.
A direct comparison allows us to notice the instinctive and passionate use of clay (and therefore plaster) which is then translated into a classical key by Drei in the final work.
Significantly beautiful, in our model, is the cloak on the reverse of the work, barely worked.
