The sculpture depicts a young man in traditional costume, captured in the act of holding a gilded metal samovar in both hands. The figure is crafted entirely of marble and semiprecious stones of varying colors, expertly assembled to capture the different elements of his clothing and complexion: the face and hands are made of light-colored stone, the tunic and trousers are made of veined green marble, and the footwear is made of red stone. The work is inspired by the famous semiprecious stone figures created by the House of Fabergé between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a genre that enjoyed great success in Russian stone art with its depictions of folk characters and traditional crafts, often embellished with gilded metal elements.
