 The canvas depicts a still life of flowers in a vase with an almost metallic and eccentric design; in place of the handles there are two prosperous female figures while in the center of the body an anthropomorphic element within vegetal spirals completes the decoration. The shape of the vase is capricious and bizarre, probably heir to that still late mannerist taste which seems to be inspired by the well-known one between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries expressed for example in the engravings of the Polidoresque vases. The style is linked to the composite galaxy of the so-called 'Masters of the grotesque vase', a name variously identified with a workshop whose production extends over a very broad chronological period and involves very different cultural areas: Rome, Lombardy and Piedmont.

The issue still represents a problem with a complex solution. This is above all because, as Alberto Veca writes, "compared to the archival collection of a series of paintings of flower compositions with an exquisitely archaic character (...) there is an absence of names, of inventory traces, at least for those, few , explored, almost as if a 'still life of flowers' had not existed in the initial phase of the seventeenth century in the centers of Italian production". 

Nonetheless, the canvases belonging to this group are of the highest quality level which suggests the hand of one or more first-rate painters. The stylistic commissions here suggest a skilled painter of Roman origins active in the first half of the 17th century.
