Matthieu Van Plattenberg known as Platte-Montagne or Montagne (Antwerp 1608 - Paris 1660)
It is a small painting that is exciting in the dramatic force of the narration: movement and lightning flashes in the sky are the fundamental characteristics. The arrival of the storm is imminent, the sky is threatening with large clouds chasing each other, the sea has swelled with gigantic waves that crash loudly on the rocky coast. Two vessels are at the center of the scene at the mercy of the waves and in obvious difficulty; who knows if he will manage not to be shipwrecked. People on the right above a rock struggle in similar difficulties.
