Description

A two-piece solid walnut cabinet. Emilia, 17th century. This is an important piece of furniture that perfectly embodies the concepts of Emilian metrics, where the sober lines, a regional constant, are beautifully balanced with the body and few decorative elements: doors, pilasters, and sides bordered by flat frames, a strongly projecting top, and a top cornice edged with dentils. The frame is made of softwood (poplar, in this case). A horizontal molded band divides the two parts of the cabinet. Wooden knobs. This type of furniture was originally intended for state rooms with multipurpose functions: a wardrobe, cabinet, and sideboard, suitable for storing the most important furnishings, collections, and collections of precious objects. The rear cornice, carved according to the so-called "bachelor" design, suggests an early dating of the double body, dating back to the first quarter of the 17th century. The sideboard in question is in good condition and still bears the original patina created over the centuries. The locks are contemporary with the furniture, and the working keys are also present. The only non-original elements of the piece are the feral-shaped supports, likely the result of a replacement carried out in the late 19th century or, at the latest, the early 20th century. The original legs, however, must have had a similar shape.
