Designer: Mojmir Pozar / Manufacturer: UP Závody / Model: Bedroom cabinet / / Designed by Mojmír Požár and produced by UP Závody in the 60s, this bedroom cabinet is a perfect example of Nordic design with Eastern European accents: understated, functional and extraordinarily elegant in its details.
The low, rectangular structure is divided into two sections: a longer part with two open compartments, separated by a glass shelf, and a more compact part with two drawers with white knobs and an additional upper compartment. On the base, a smoked glass top embellishes the composition, playing with reflections and transparencies.
A slightly marbled headboard runs through the entire piece of furniture and extends to the floor at the back, acting as a support together with the two front feet. An architectural gesture that gives momentum and lightness to the structure.
Perfect as a bedroom furniture, a television console or a focal point in a minimalist living area. Black and silver color choices for the decorative objects maximize the contrast with the light wood and smoked glass, highlighting its refined sobriety.
UP Závody was founded in Brno in 1920, following a merger of companies initiated by Jan Van?k and Karel Slaví?ek. Initially consisting of carpenters who mainly produced furniture, the company expanded its offering in the late 20s to include a whole range of home furniture, following the directive of the company's fresh and early development director, Jind?ich Halabala, who led the company's product promotion and sales strategy until 1946.
Believing that furniture should be fully functional, modular, changeable and widely accessible, Halabala, who also designed for Thonet, advocated a new mass-market approach to furniture.
