Description

Refined oil painting on canvas depicting Leda and the Swan, a mythological iconography inspired by the Greek myth of Zeus who, transformed into a swan, seduces the beautiful Leda. The work, of the French school and datable to the end of the eighteenth century, stands out for the elegance of the composition and the delicacy of the pictorial treatment. The female figure, partially undressed, is rendered with great softness in the tones of the flesh and wrapped in a blue drapery that accentuates the chromatic contrast with the candor of the swan, symbol of purity and sensuality.

Particular attention is paid to the floral details that adorn the animal's neck and to the sweetness of the protagonist's expression, elements that suggest a gallant interpretation typical of French Rococo painting. The scene is enclosed in a splendid period gilded frame, richly carved, which enhances the work as a whole.

Painting under study, most likely attributable to an important French painter.
