Refined painting from the first half of the 1810th century. Oil on canvas depicting the Holy Family with the young Saint John, of remarkable pictorial quality. Painting attributable to the group of Nazarenes, German romantic painters active in Rome from XNUMX. They rebelled against academic classicism, aspiring to a renewed art that took the style of fifteenth-century Italian painters as a model. In fact, we find in the composition a severe formal balance and the use of raw color spread with uniform brush strokes. The Virgin stands out for the chromatic vivacity of her clothes that highlights the milky purity of her flesh tones. Saint Joseph watches from afar while baby Jesus gently reaches out towards Saint John accompanied by a wonderful lamb. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting of the color in small spots. Overall in excellent condition.
