On the right, a scenic arrangement of buildings and trees unfolds, while in the foreground, groups of peasants, wayfarers, and female figures in traditional dress enliven the scene with lively gestures, in keeping with the typical style of 18th-century Piedmontese genre painting. The pictorial rendering, executed with fluid brushstrokes and a warm palette, is in keeping with the tradition of capriccios with ruins and figures that were widespread in Northern Italy during the 18th century.
