The painting is part of the production of a Roman workshop in the Bambocciante style, with a landscape influenced by the "heroic" landscape tradition of Salvatorian influence. The composition shows a shepherd seated at rest, with a staff and dog at his side, in the foreground against a backdrop of twisted trees and architectural ruins, with a second figure barely visible in the middle of the field. The brushwork is loose and synthetic, with a palette of earthy browns and greens enlivened by a bright sky with pink clouds.

Condition report: Lined canvas. The painted surface is in good condition, with slight oxidation of the varnish. Some losses along the frame edge.
