early eighteenth century

Sizes

Description

Venetian painter (18th century) – Scene of a country celebration.

69 cm x 52 cm.

Oil on panel, unframed.

The scene depicts a group of folk figures gathered on a rocky outcrop in a wooded landscape: a guitar player, a standing woman with a tambourine, and other seated or reclining figures enliven the composition with vivacity. The dark greenish background, the rapid strokes, and the vibrant palette in the red and white accents of the garments hark back to the tradition of 18th-century Venetian genre painting.
