Mid-eighteenth century;
Height 48 cm; Width 36 cm;
Refined Louis XV plaque from Naples, from the mid-eighteenth century, circular in gilded and finely embossed copper, depicting the Madonna with the Child Jesus and Saint John the Baptist, a typical expression of eighteenth-century Marian devotion. The composition is distinguished by the elegance of the figures and the sweetness of the faces, framed by radiant halos, a symbol of sanctity. The scene is inserted in a valuable contemporary frame in carved and gilded wood in Louis XV style, of Neapolitan manufacture, adorned with floral motifs and rosettes at the corners, with a richly carved central cymatium and pendant. The entire set reflects the Rococo taste for the balance between sacredness and ornamental decoration.
