Description

Animalier porcelain depicting a Dachshund dog, hand painted with the original brand of the Hungarian Herend manufacturer. Founded in 1820 by the workshop of Vince Dtingl, in the village from which it takes its name, it produced ceramics until 1839, distinguishing itself for its taste for ancient Chinoiserie, subsequently following the classical European elegance of Meissen, Capodimonte, Sèvres and the Viennese style. In 1851 the manufacture received a prestigious commission from Queen Victoria on the occasion of the Great Expo in London, the service decorated with an animalier and floral theme is still included in the artistic production today. The refinement achieved by the manufacture soon aroused international interest, it obtained recognition at the main exhibitions, and Emperor Franz Joseph assumed its patronage. On the prestigious European royal tables, the Herend services find the right place, the personalized decorations are dedicated to leading figures of high society, thus the Queen Victoria, Prince of Wales, Liechtenstein principality series was born to enhance this period of royal patronage.
