Description

Ancient Neapolitan polychrome wooden sculpture depicting the Immaculate Madonna dating back to the 18th century.

The Virgin Mary is depicted in a moment of profound devotion with her hands clasped on her chest in a prayerful position and her gaze turned upward to symbolize her purity and her direct connection with the divine.

Mary rests her feet on a large green-blue sphere which represents the world element, this which symbolizes the triumph of the virgin over earthly sin.

At the base of the globe emerge two heads of winged angels whose ideal function is to support the Virgin.

The statue rests on a non-contemporary shelf, also made of gilded and carved wood.

General Condition: Good Condition.

Provenance: Naples 18th century.
