The Face of Alessandro La Motta – Material Sculpture in Wax, Plaster and Black Carbon-Venice Biennale
A unique tactile and visual experience Venice Biennale
The sculpture Il volto, created by Alessandro La Motta, proposes a new dialogue between light and shadow thanks to the selected materials: wax, plaster and black carbon. In fact, the fusion of these three substances gives the surface a surprising depth; in fact, the black carbon parts emphasize the lines of the face, while the wax and plaster create soft reliefs.
Mixed media: experimentation and craftsmanship - Venice Biennale
The work, in excellent general condition, measures 45 cm in total height with base, and the head alone is 24 × 17 × 13 cm. Furthermore, the choice of accumulating layers of plaster on the wax, and then spreading black carbon, is a refined and unique process. This mix, however, requires great expertise: La Motta has refined the technique in his atelier, so as to guarantee stability and durability.
The charm of the material and the strength of the face
The contrast between the white opaqueness of the plaster and the intense black of the carbon creates, therefore, an effect of great scenic impact. As the light strikes the profile, warm reflections emerge that seem to animate the face. Although the sculpture remains solid, a sensation of lightness and tension is perceived, therefore the work takes on a symbolic and sensual character at the same time.
Alessandro La Motta: International Vision
The artist was invited to the 54th Venice Biennale, and is known for his participation in prestigious exhibitions: Barcelona, Lubelsky Gallery in New York, Universal Expo in Shanghai, Hebron, Jerusalem and Dakar. Therefore, owning one of his pieces means owning a work esteemed by critics and the global market. Furthermore, La Motta always manages to blend Mediterranean myth and contemporary research.
Why choose this sculpture?
Therefore, Il volto is perfect for those who want to add an element of strong personality to their space, be it a study, a minimalist living room or a private gallery. In addition, the limited height makes the display simple, while the solid base guarantees stability. Finally, the work is ready to be displayed, thanks to its impeccable condition.
