early nineteenth century
Height 78 cm Length 58 cm
Ancient sculpture made entirely of terracotta depicting an elderly man taken from the waist up dressed in an ancient tunic. The expression of the character portrayed as well as the deep folds of the tunic are skillfully reproduced by the hand of the artist who leaves nothing to idealistic transfigurations and faithfully brings us the visual data, that of a person at the end of his years, engraved on the face by the inexorable passage of time. The drapery has a strong plastic connotation given the strong chiaroscuro that can be seen in grazing light. The bust of the ancient man ends in the lower part resting on a circular pedestal that gives the whole a measured momentum. Material: Terracotta.
