Description

The Tirthamkara, the “crosser of the ford” or the “victorious one” is the title used in Jainism to indicate the 24 prophets who have succeeded one another in the historical cycles to reveal Jainism itself to humanity.
The master is seated in Dhyana asana position and appears naked or 'dressed in air', the epithet attributed to the Digambara, one of the two currents of Jainism. The sculpture is made of dark stone and on the base is engraved the distinctive sign of a bull identifiable in the master Rishabhanatha.
The surface of the stone is abraded and smooth to the touch, a sign of constant veneration.
