1957
Height 24 cm Diameter 9 cm
Venini blown glass hourglass designed by Paolo Venini and Fulvio Bianconi probably in 1957, characterized by the pale blue-sea water color, a rare color and now out of production.
Dimensions: Height 24 cm Diameter 9 cm
In good condition.
The hourglasses designed by Venini and Bianconi are born in the complex glassmaking technique of incalmo, a technique of combining different colors of glass heat-welded together in such a way as to create a single blown piece with distinct colours. It should be underlined, and this supports the object on display, that only some colors can be joined with this technique, as each color has its own cooling characteristics which, obviously, must be compatible, otherwise the different tensions would end up breaking the created object.
Venini has always stood out from other glass manufacturers for its style and the uniqueness of its colors and to obtain the particular color of Murano Glass, Venini glass vases must carefully coexist in all the ingredients. These traditional glass production techniques are sometimes secret and are the result of an artisanal savoir faire that is passed down from generation to generation.
Through the words of the designers themselves we can understand the poetics that move behind the hourglasses: "These blown glass hourglasses let the sand inside spread slowly, as if it were in eternal balance between today and yesterday."
