Vittorio Guacimanni (Ravenna, 1859-1938). “Portrait of a man”, oil on panel. Signed and dated “1885” lower left. Contemporary lacquered and ebonized wooden frame present. Dimensions of the panel: 23,5×14 cm. Dimensions of the frame: 42×32 cm. On the back, it bears the following inscriptions: “oil by Guaccimanni n. 5 national exhibition Ravenna 1959”. Vittorio Guacimanni was a student of Arturo Moradei at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna. He then left for Rome to perfect his skills. He was then Commissioner of the Art Institute in Venice for several years. Returning to Ravenna to direct and teach at the city Academy, in the last years of his life he devoted himself mainly to etching. Under his direction, the first mosaic course was established. He participated in several national and international exhibitions and shows, among which we remember the Paris Exhibition of 1900. He is today considered one of the greatest exponents of Ravenna painting between the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries. An excellent portraitist, Ugo Ojetti said of him: «Guaccimanni is a designer of horses and soldiers who now, with the death of Fattori, has no equal in Italy».
