The Medusa was one of the 3 Gorgons, the mortal one. She was a monster, terrible in appearance, with a head girded with snakes, boar's tusks, hands of bronze, wings of gold, glittering eyes and a gaze that petrified. Perseus, who came to kill her on the orders of Polydectes, tyrant of Serifos, or of Athena, cut off her head while M. was sleeping, lifting himself into the air with his winged sandals and using her shield as a mirror to avoid her terrible gaze. From her head came the horse Pegasus and Chrysaor. Athena then fixed his head di lei in the center of the aegis on her chest di lei (or on her di lei shield di lei) and Perseus collected her blood di lei: poisonous that flowed from the left vein di lei, remedy resurrecting the dead that of the right vein. Later legend made M. a rival girl of Athena for the beauty of her hair, which the goddess punished by changing her hair into snakes, or even a girl who, violated by Poseidon in a temple of the goddess, was punished for sacrilege .
