first half of the 18th century
Height 86 cm Length 94 cm Depth 50 cm
Small console in carved, sculpted and gilded wood with a shaped top painted in imitation marble, Roman craftsmanship from the first half of the 18th century.
Design: Height 86 cm Length 94 cm Depth 50 cm
The design is strongly influenced by the great Roman Baroque cabinet-making of the 17th century, whimsical and redundant in the development of its curved line. The dimensions and the presence of particular stylistic motifs lead the example back to the last period of Louis
Base, shaft and the wide band are a triumph of wise mastery of wooden sculpture, finely carved and sculpted with vigorous curly volutes, floral stylistic features and rocailles. The top has a mixtilinear profile and is still made of wood except that instead of being gilded, it is painted to simulate the consistency of marble.
The work is positioned between a piece of furniture and a sculpture, a practical function and a symbolic function are therefore mixed, as was the practice in the baroque aesthetics of the time.
