Boulle one-door sideboard, inlaid with gilded brass engraved with rocaille motifs.
The style takes its name from the French cabinetmaker Andrè-Charles Boulle, active in Paris since 1600. Upon his death the business was managed by his sons and the "Boulle style" spread throughout France in the following centuries, especially in the Napoleon III period.
Shaped both on the front and on the sides, this beautiful piece of furniture has a door decorated with a medallion motif, and is finally embellished with the application of gilded and chiseled bronzes with motifs of masks, female figures and chiseled frames on the edges.
The executive level of this splendid piece of furniture places it among the highest expressions of French "Boulle" cabinet making, comparable to those produced by the Wasmus brothers, Bernard Befort or Georges-Alphonse Mombro, all specialized in Boulle style furniture during the second half of the 19th century. .
The piece of furniture is in perfect condition.
