Early eighteenth century.
Width:135 cm.; depth: 67 cm., height: 98 cm.
Chest of drawers with three drawers in walnut root. Emilia (between Bologna and Modena), early eighteenth century.
The sober scheme of the piece of furniture, of seventeenth-century derivation and of exquisite proportions, is refined by an elaborate search for ornamental details, such as the use of a variegated and thick walnut root on the front, with the so-called "standing wood" technique, l the use of finely molded frames on the sides to create a rhomboidal decoration, the underlining of the strongly overhanging frames and the support shelves through the expedient of ebonized wood mordant, the presence of magnificent brass handles of fully baroque taste. The top and sides of the furniture are in solid walnut, while the back and drawer linings are in poplar. The locks are also contemporary, one of which has a double throw. The layout of the furniture, as mentioned, follows seventeenth-century construction canons, but the particularly studied use of materials and decorative apparatus suggests a slightly more advanced dating.
Excellent state of conservation. Replacement of some boards in the backrest. Presence of the original patina.
Provenance: Castel Bolognese (RA), Private Collection.
Certification of authenticity and lawful origin of the furniture is issued in accordance with the law.
