The author, known above all for his romantic historicist subjects and for his love for the Risorgimento theme, was also a portraitist, active mainly in Venice but also in Turin, where he worked as a painter of the Savoy court from 1839 to 1849
We find him present in 1830, enrolled in the Venetian Academy where he began to exhibit successfully, establishing himself in 1838 with the canvas of a historical subject entitled Giovanna Gray Executed and other paintings inspired by the story of Doge Marino Faliero, who was particularly popular at the time.
