Pair of antique bronze candlesticks of German manufacture. Produced between the 17th and 18th centuries, these candlesticks were designed for nautical use; their massive and wide hexagonal base made them stable and ensured that they did not fall with the oscillating movement of the boats on the waves.
The base is hexagonal, obtained by casting, and is decorated with smooth mouldings that gradually decrease towards the centre. It is joined to the central baluster by hot riveting. On the bottom of the candlestick you can see the hand-riveted rivet.
The baluster, short, is turned, with a prominent knot and is a single body with the candle holder.
The two wax collecting pans were inserted into the candle, this allowed them to be kept close to the flame and lowered as the candle burned down for safety reasons.
The two candlesticks are in excellent condition as can be seen in the photos.
measures:
Height 19 cm
Base diameter 14,5 cm
