Of great executive quality, this parade console is proof of the mastery achieved by eighteenth-century Turin cabinetmakers in creating furnishings commissioned from them by the major aristocratic families.
This type of furniture, characterized by a notable ornamental exuberance, characterized the large workshops that operated in Turin in the first half of the 18th century, seeing the establishment of important schools on the peninsula, together with the Roman and Genoese ones.
The opulence and plastic vigor of its design surpass the function of furniture, effectively becoming objects to contemplate, parade furniture, works of art and as such aimed at the exaltation of the owner who through it ennobled his own spaces representative servants and their social rank.
The console is crowned by the original shelf in precious purple Calacatta marble, shaped to the shape of the wooden frame, finished on its perimeter by a beautiful profiling called 'owl's beak'.
The sculptor proves to be perfectly in line with the lexicon of the mid-eighteenth century, rich in references to the rocaille taste known as "Louis XV style", found in the typical frivolous and fluttering cartouches, in the acanthus leaf decorations and in the curly endings. The four powerful legs are softened by an always affected wood carving, coordinated by an "X" crosspiece centered by a large asymmetric motif of exquisitely rococo taste.
The same processes are equally found in various geographical areas of Northern Italy (Milan or Genoa, mainly) or French, to whose refined productions our console could equally refer.
STATE OF CONSERVATION: The console is in a good general state of conservation. It shows normal wear on the gold leaf, with some defects and small cracks scattered throughout the structure (repairable at the discretion of the future buyer).
